Mia’s Art in Bloom a refreshing rite of spring

Every year, the Minneapolis Institute of Art exhibits floral arrangements and imaginative interpretations of selected works of art from their permanent collection. They are created by more than 100 individual artists and commercial florists. The festival lasts 4 days and they invite everyone to experience the fragrance of flowers that spreads through the entire museum. They even sell floral inspired merchandise in a pop-up shop.

This year’s festival featured 165 different interpretations. Clearly it was an extremely popular event, with a total attendance of 51,627 people. After the festival is over, they take the flowers that still have life in them and put them into new floral arrangements, which they then donate to local nursing homes.

I personally love both art museums and flower arrangements, so this festival was a great opportunity to see the two together.
