Holy Family Track and Field participated in their first official home meet on Tuesday, May 2. After weeks of rain and cancellations, the athletes couldn’t wait to compete on their home track.

Mound Westonka, Orono, Waconia, and Holy Family were the four schools that competed in the meet.

The team started off strong with the girls 4×800 relay winning. The four runners were Megan Beulke (11), Abbey Fink (9), Abby Ernst (12), and Kendra Franck (12).

Senior captain, Kendra Franck, also took first in the 800 meter race.

The girls sprint team had a successful day as well: Evelyn Willenbring (10), Gracie Lund (11), Emma Terris (11), and Emily Willenbring (12), dominated the 4×200 relay, finishing nearly 50 meters ahead of the other teams.

Not only did senior captain, Emily Willenbring, take first in the 4×200 relay, she also won the 200m dash and the long jump, tying her personal best. Senior Zach Gallus also took first in long jump with 18-04.

Holy Family swept the boys 800m with Zyler Niece (10) placing first, Jack Fink (10) placing second, and Danny Marschall (11) placing third.

The girls and boys throwing team also had a successful meet with standout performances. Senior captain Corrie Day placed fifth overall in girls discus throw with a 77-06. William Beck (11) also placed in discus by throwing 102-02.

Senior Captain, Emily Willenbring, reflected on the meet, “It was exciting to see so many Holy Family athletes perform well. It’s also always fun to be able to compete on our home track. I am looking forward to our upcoming meets!”

Overall, it was a successful meet for Holy Family with many new PRs for athletes. Holy Family Track and Field’s next meet is Friday, May 5th at St. Thomas Academy.
