With string of victories, golf team builds toward postseason
Following a second place state tournament finish last year, the boys golf team is having another succesful season. But, their most important tournaments loom in the near future. The team is led by captains Tyler Muschewske and Matt Larson. Other top players include Lincoln Cizek and Jack Michel, who recently earned All-Conference recognition.
The team as a whole has turned in some impressive performances. Recently, they won the Shakopee Invite, the Shattuck-St. Mary’s Invite and placed second place at the Lakeville Invite, tying the school record of 288 in the process.
According to Lincoln Cizek, the team has been improving every tournament. At the beginning of the season, the team was shooting 310-320 at tournaments. A month later the team shot 288 back to back at two tournaments.
In addition to strong team play, individuals have also had noteworthy tournaments. Tyler won the Shattuck Invite with Cizek placing second. Cizek won both the Shakopee Invite and Lakeville Invite. At the Creeks Bend Conference tournament, Jack Michel won the event, with Muschewske and Cizek tying for second.
Sections begin on June 1, and the team has high hopes for the rest of the season. Their main focus now is to qualify for the State tournament for the third year in a row. Lincoln Cizek commented, “We should have no problem, but there are no guarantees. We have to play our best in order to qualify.”
Tyler Muschewske added, “We are having a very successful season so far and we are looking forward to carrying our momentum into the section and state tournaments.”
The boys golf team kicks off the postseason at Pebble Creek in Becker at 11 on June 1.
