Boys soccer bounces back against Rockford

After losing to Eden Prairie 3-1 in their season opener, the boys soccer team has been busy preparing for their next game against Rockford.

Reflecting on the start to the season, senior goalie Mark Haran said, “After competing with Eden Prairie, we gained a good feeling of how we work together as a team. Going into this next game, I think we are pretty confident in our ability to perform well. As a goal for this game, I think we need to challenge the ball and be more aggressive offensively. Hopefully we pull off the win.”

From the first whistle against Rockford on Thursday, the Fire possessed the ball for the majority of the game and dominated not only offensively but defensively. Both John and Joe Simon provided excellent scoring opportunities with crosses into the box.

With a goal from John Simon early in the first half, the Fire went into the second half in control. Not only were the boys creating many offensive opportunities, Brady Richter, Sawyer Schugel, and Peter Neve each played strong defensively.

With twenty-three minutes left in the second half, Ben Creager scored off of a cross by Richter. The game ended 2-0. After the game, Captain Peter Neve said, “Our team chemistry was finally coming together and I’m very excited for what is to come.”

The boys team has yet another challenging schedule this season, with games against Edina, Shakopee, Orono, Chanhassen, Chaska, and Waconia.

Their next matchup is against Southwest Christian High School. The game is at 5:00 on Tuesday, September 5th at Holy Family.
