Fire defeat Annandale on Senior Night
On a beautiful fall evening, the Holy Family football team held off an Annandale comeback to defeat the ninth-ranked Cardinals 45-39 on Senior Night.
In a back and forth game, QB Jacob Zay paced the Fire with 140 rushing yards, 109 passing yards and 2 touchdowns. Sam Reigert added 40 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns.
Defensively, Nick Lynch, Michael Furlong and Dominic Phillips all had standout performances with 12, 11 and 9 tackles, respectively. Furlong and Phillips each contributed 2 timely sacks as well.
Following a scoring drought that included a 26-0 loss against Dassel-Cokato last week, the Fire’s offensive explosion was well-timed. Up 42-27 late in the game, Holy Family was able to weather an Annandale comeback attempt.
Holy Family’s 6 total touchdowns and convincing victory should give them momentum as they enter the section playoffs this week. Surprisingly, the Fire narrowly missed hosting a first round game and will travel to take on Belle Plaine.
Kickoff is set for Tuesday at 7pm.
