Students and faculty donate enough blood to save 117 lives

Today, Holy Family Student Council partnered with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive. Students and faculty gathered in the multi-purpose room throughout the day to donate blood to the organization. 46 people from the Holy Family community came in to give blood including Holy Family’s President Mr. Brennan.

Each donation averaged between four and ten minutes, not including recovery time. Overall, the students and faculty donated 39 total units of blood. There were also two double Red Blood Cell donations included. This process involves taking double the amount of red blood cells from a single donor and returning their plasma and platelets back into their body. Each unit of blood can save three lives, so this is equivalent to saving 117 lives!

The blood drive is a wonderful annual tradition that allows Holy Family Students to give back to their community in a unique way. Student Council and its leaders hope to continue this event next year and in the future.
