Girls Lacrosse looks ahead

With just 4 games remaining, the Holy Family Girls Lacrosse season is currently in full swing. So far, the girls have had a successful season with impressive wins against Prior Lake, Hutchinson, Delano-Rockford, and long-time rivals Benilde St. Margaret’s.

Captains Molly Kalb, Mary New, and Leigh Steiner look to end the season off strong. After their appraised 14-11 victory over the Benilde Red Knights, the girls will face just 3 more teams; Eden Prairie, Owatonna, and Chaska. Kalb stated, “We’ve had a couple tough losses, but we had a really great win against Benilde and hopefully that will give us momentum to finish the season strong.”

To emerge successfully through the remainder of the season, the girls reflect on their need to use offensive tactics. With 8 seniors and 5 juniors, the team relies heavily on upperclassmen strength for offensive power. Currently, Senior Molly Kalb leads her team with 32 points; in just 9 games, she has netted 23 goals and has assisted another 9. Fellow senior Molly Garin and Junior Leigh Steiner trail close behind, each with 31 points. Mary New joins the 3 offensive superpowers, leading the team with her recovery of 38 ground balls.

Though the team had amassed impressive successes on the field, the girls also stress their closeness in the locker-room. The team has a strong bond, and several underclassmen have commented on their sadness upon seeing the seniors leave. Leigh Steiner remarks that “The Senior class is super strong and filled with leaders. We are losing Molly Garin and Molly Kalb who bring the laughter to the team but also contribute majorly to the midfield.” The team looks to even strengthen their bond further as the season continues and hopefully run as far as they can in sections.

Though the remaining games will be tough, the girls want to stress the importance of their game versus close-competitors the Chaska Hawks. The game will take place on Tuesday, May 22nd on the Holy Family Catholic home fields. Captain Mary New comments that “Chaska is always a good match. We beat them last year in a close battle, and this year’s game is expected to be even more intense.” Face off begins at 7:00 PM, and the girls want to encourage fans to come support the girls on their senior night!
