Fire Girls Begin Postseason as Top Seed

The Holy Family Girls basketball team finished the regular season with a share of the Wright County conference championship, an impressive accomplishment being that it is a conference with multiple schools a class above them ( Delano, New Prague, Orono, Waconia, etc.) The Fire also finished #1 in QRF (a seed determining system) in class 2A. As a result, the Fire will be the #1 seed in their section and the only team with a BYE. Their competition will be #2 Annandale, who the Fire beat 59-52 earlier in the year, and #3 Maranatha, who the Fire beat 57-43. Overall, this section should not scare the Fire. A combined 10-0 record against section opponents this year gives the Fire an optimistic view heading into the postseason.

This team will be banking heavily on experience this postseason. The Duo of Leigh Steiner and Grace Conroy will now be seeking their 4th consecutive trip to the section finals. As freshman, the two were a part of the team that reached the State tournament, while the the past 2 years they came up just short. They now look to take their previous experiences, and use them to make this year ‘the year’. When senior captain Leigh Steiner was asked to put this postseason into perspective she said, “this postseason is different than the other 3 because ever since freshman year we have talked about what it would be like as seniors, and now that we are here and have worked extremely hard to be placed as the #1 seed, I am realizing that this is it…this is what we have talked about for the past 4 years. With this being the seniors last chance, it gives us all more motivation to make every second, every play, and every game count in order to get us closer and closer to our goal. In order to get a different result than the last 2 years we will just have to keep being us…keep working hard, and keep working as a team. Then, with our talent, our mindset, and our work ethic, there is no limit.”

The Fire will embark on their road to state beginning March 2nd @ St. Michael Albertville, game time 1pm, against the winner of SW Christian* vs Blake*

** The Fire beat SW Christian earlier in the season by a score of 52-22
