HFGBB Section 5AA Semi-Finals Preview

This past Saturday, Holy Family girls basketball defeated Southwest Christian by a score of 56-39.  The Fire were balanced in their scoring.  Grace Conroy led the way scoring 12 points.  She was followed by Leigh Steiner with 10 points.  Seven other players scored for the Fire.  Senior captain Grace Conroy was happy with how the Fire played as a team.  She said, “I’m feeling really good coming off the win against Southwest Christian.  I feel like we play very well as a team and it had been a little while since we had played a game, so it felt really good being able to be able to actually play again.  I think the biggest thing we can take away from the game is that we need to continue to give everything we can because we know that’s what the other team is going to do.”

With their victory over Southwest Christian, the Fire are set to face Providence Academy in the section 5AA semi-finals.  The Fire played Providence Academy on the road earlier this year, winning by a score of 57-46.  Junior Grace Elander believes their experience playing Providence Academy earlier in the year will benefit them in their upcoming game: “I think being able to play them early on in the season, they don’t know how much we have grown.  We were able to shut them down once, and I think because it’s sections we will be even more motivated to do it again.”  Senior captain Leigh Steiner added, “Personally, I am focused on playing my best game and playing in a way that helps everyone else play their best game.  In order to win, the team needs to communicate, play lock down defense, and have confidence in our strengths, which are all things we have been doing all season.  We are going to need to shut down some of their shooters but doing that isn’t new to us, so we just need to lockdown and play our game!”

The Fire will take on Providence Academy on March 5 at St. Michael-Albertville Middle School West.  A win over Providence Academy would send the Fire to the section 5AA championship for the fourth year in a row. The team is hoping to see the stands packed with fire fans so make sure to support the team on Tuesday!
