Holy Family Track Competes at True Team Section Meet

The Holy Family track team competed at the True Team Section meet in Rockford on Tuesday night. There were many top finishers for the Fire team, a Class A team, who were competing against mainly teams from class AA. The competition was stiff for the Fire athletes, but Holy Family still managed to have some high place finishes.

The girls 4 x 100 consisting of Mimi Pavelka, Grace Murphy, Grace Conroy and Sydney Paulsen finished in 5th place with a time of 53.88 seconds. Sydney Paulsen and Grace Murphy also placed well in their field events. Paulsen finished 5th in pole vault with a vault of 7 feet and Murphy got 4th in the Long Jump with a jump of 16’4″. To round off the scoring for the girls’ was Logan Paulsen with a throw of 89’6″ in discus to finish 6th.

Holy Family’s boys athletes also found success at the meet. On the track, Pat Ricke ran a time of 10:45.93 in the 3200, which was good for 5th place. Zyler Niece placed 7th in the 1600 with a time of 4:50.19. The 4 x 400 consisting of Joey Richelsen, Zyler Niece, Dylan Ehlers and Tyler Franck also finished in 7th with a time of 3:48.36.

In field events, the Fire saw Captain Seth Thompson show up big in both the shot put and discus. In shotput, Thompson threw 44’7″ for a 2nd place finish. He also threw 134’6″ in discus which placed him in 3rd for the event.

Overall, Holy Family competed well against the much bigger schools and are hoping they can continue the good performances heading into sub-sections on Thursday, May 23rd.
