Holy Family Cross Country Competes at New Prague Trojan Invitational
Meet Preview:
On Tuesday, September 24, the Holy Family Cross Country team competed at the New Prague Trojan Invitational. Here’s a recap of how the boys’ and girls’ cross country team fared.
Boys’ Cross Country Team Recap:
There were slower times than expected most likely due to humid weather and recent illnesses. However, the meet was successful nonetheless, especially when considering the hilly-nature of the course.
Leading the way with a 12th place finish, was senior captain Tyler Franck in a time of 18:17.0. Not far behind, was a pack consisting of Jaden Lorenz, Patrick Ricke, and Ben Fink, who each finished within the top 25. Lorenz, a junior, clocked in at 18:39.6. Right on his heels, were Ricke and Fink who finished in a time of 18:43.4 and 18:43.5, respectively. Rounding out the Fire’s top five was Greg Stoffel, a junior, who came in at a time of 20:06.8.
Girls’ Cross Country Team Recap:
The girls’ team was short three runners due to injuries, but was fierce nonetheless. Coming in 20th place, was freshman Ava Mettler, who finished the race in 23:14.4. Danielle Sutcliffe, who is also a freshman, posted a time of 25:35.6. The girls’ team will look to return to full strength for the WCC East Conference Championship and Section meet in the coming weeks.
Looking Ahead:
The cross country team’s next meet is Thursday, October 3 at the Olivia Golf Club. The boys’ and girls’ cross country team will look to build upon some solid meet performances; the early forecast is both great weather and times at the Olivia BOLD Invitational. With a relatively flat course and quality workouts in preparation for this meet, the cross country team will look to be competitive in the boys’ and girls’ field of runners. The Olivia BOLD Invitational meet marks the last meet for the Fire before entering championship season. The Fire will look to get healthy and start tapering down in preparation for the WCC East Conference Championship and Section meet, which are only 13 and 23 days away, respectively.
