Ignition

Up until Tuesday, October 8th, the Holy Family Volleyball team was 0-15. A large crowd for Senior Night came out to supports seniors Kathryn Jans, Abby Smith, Kalie Dahl, and manager McKenna Mechtel. The 3 seniors were joined by the other 3 starters, a trio of Sophomores including Lizzie Guggemos, Sophia Mackey, and Tatum Hussey. The final conference match of the year was against an above average Delano team. In the first set, Delano came out firing quickly with a 7 point set win. Jans, the Setter, kept giving the Fire hope through the 2nd set, giving assists to the other 5. Smith tallied an outstanding 2nd set, which helped add up to her 19 kills on the night. Tied at 24, the Fire came out of the hard fought set victorious 27-25. The next 2 sets were history. With the bleachers shaking, the band playing, fans cheering, Dahl and Guggemos both recorded shocking blocks. The 3 sophomores of Hussey, Mackey, and Guggemos, along with the sole sub thorough the game, sophomore Derry Donnelly, combined for 36 defenses. Both the 3rd and 4th set were won 25-17.

With 4 more game left in the season (New Life, BSM, St. Paul Highland, and Waconia), the ladies will hope the obtain a few more wins, and drive up the seeding ranks. The Fire will play in Section 2AA, and will go up against heavy hitters like Bloomington Kennedy, SW Christian, and Jordan. Although the 1-15 record, the Girls have been winning sets, as 7 have been won in the season, but it takes 3 sets to win a game, and the spark started Tuesday could be the ignition to light an inferno.
