Winter Sports to Consider Joining

A few winter sports Holy Family offers include alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, fencing, and swimming. These sports are great for athletes that are looking to try something new during the winter months.

The alpine ski team practices three times a week at Hyland Hills in Bloomington. Alpine skiing does not require any ski race experience and it is a great way to meet new people from other schools, as the team is made up of students from Waconia, Mound, and Providence.

If you enjoy skiing but are not on board with racing down a hill as fast as you can, maybe Nordic skiing is the sport for you. The Holy Family Nordic team practices everyday after school, traveling to various courses around the area. When asked why she likes Nordic skiing, Kenzie Pavelka, a Junior captain for this year’s team, says, “You don’t need any experience to join and the coaches are great at including every level of skier, and you’re able to be with friends as you ski.”

If you would rather stay inside this winter, consider joining the fencing team. When asked to describe fencing, Junior captain Hailey Pavelka states, “It’s very fun, we have lots of fun and practice and really focus on the team binding aspect of the sport.” The Holy Family fencing team holds practice inside the school, so you can stay warm!

Holy Family is lucky to have such a wide variety of winter sports. If you are looking for a new activity during the winter, consider joining alpine skiing, Nordic skiing or fencing.
