Three Nights at the Twist

With the closing of Sense and Sensibility, Holy Family’s theater department is trying something that has never been done before. Seniors, Luke Geadelmann and Laura Theis will be directing their own piece, “Three Nights at the Twist.”

One day at lunch, they mentioned they both enjoyed writing stories outside of school. With their love of theater, they decided they wanted to try writing their own play together. Laura then talked to the head of the theater department, Anna Crace, and she enthusiastically allowed them to allow their idea to come to life.

Luke and Laura started the creative process in early June, meeting in coffee shops every Wednesday. Their original concept was centered around Winston Churchill but they were also tossing around other ideas. Inspired by one of their lessons in their sophomore morality class about Lawrence Kohlberg’s stages of moral development, they decided to shift the focus to how society influences an individual’s mortality. With a developed plot outline they started writing the script. They met every morning at 7 before school and during btc to revise and edit their story. During BTC, they have come up with some of their best ideas. The final draft for their show is a 1920’s crime story about a young woman discovering her morals amidst the backdrop of speakeasy life.

Luke and Laura encourage everyone who has any interest in theater to join either as an actor or part of the creative team. There is a large cast where actors, dancers, and musicians are needed for the play. They are looking for creative teams: makeup and hair artists, costume designers, and set crew. They also want to emphasize that there are many tiny roles, so if you want a part but have lots of commitments they are very flexible. Luke and Laura are very excited to see their idea come to life and to work with all the amazing people involved!
