Why Water is Weird

Water is a weird substance made up of two hydrogen and one oxygen atom. Water can be solid in the form of ice, thawed to a liquid state, and boiled to a gas in the form of steam. This weird substance is absolutely necessary for the survival of human beings as humans can only go about three days without drinking water before they die. It is important to drink enough water because it has so many health benefits. Body temperature regulation completely relies on the consumption of water. Water also helps protect vital organs while carrying oxygen and nutrients to the cells in your body. The ability for your brain to function also depends on H2O. Another interesting fact is that water actually helps your body to fight off illness. Water is essential for the well-being of humans.

Even though water is absolutely essential for human life, it is also very dangerous and can harm people in many ways. We need to drink enough water everyday, but if we drink too much water intoxication can occur. This is not a common occurrence as you have to drink an absurd amount of this liquid for this to occur but it can still happen. Water intoxication occurs when the body has too much water and it throws off the balance of electrolytes. Excess water can also cause the brain to swell, which can result in coma and, in extreme cases, death. Again, this is not a common occurance so continue to drink your water without being afraid.

Water is not only good for drinking but is used in daily life for many different purposes. Washing machines and dishwashers use water for cleaning purposes. Humans also use water for bodily hygiene. Brushing your teeth, showering, and washing your hands all use water in great amounts. Farmers also use water to grow crops and produce food. Without water we would have no food.  Electricity can also be formed by water. Dams are one way that communities have utilized water in order to make energy. Steam coming from the core of earth has also been used to produce energy. Finally, water can be used for entertainment. Water parks with water slides and wave pools have taken water and turned it into something fun to swim and play in.

In conclusion, water is a very diverse and interesting substance that is both necessary and, to a lesser degree, threatening to human life. Water has many different forms that can be used for many different purposes and is probably one of the most useful and important resources on the planet. We should appreciate water and all it does for our livelihoods and well-being.
