Bees: Without Them, Our World Would Sting

Bees%3A+Without+Them%2C+Our+World+Would+Sting

Bzz, buzz, buzz—the sound of a busy bee hard at work, a seemingly simple creature dependent on our lives and our futures. I encourage each one of you to become involved and learn how to save bees in a healthy and sustainable way.

Unfortunately, the bee population is rapidly declining due to the negative effects of pesticides, droughts, habitat destruction, air pollution, and global warming. Understanding why bees are essential to our ecosystem and why we need them in human society is critical to all of humanity.

One of bees most important roles in the environment is their role in pollination. Most crops grown for their fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and fiber require pollination in order to reproduce, thus making bees a major facet of our world. According to the National Park Service, “At least 80 percent of all the flowering plants on earth are pollinated by bees! This amounts to more than 1,200 food crops and 180,000 different types of plants—plants which help stabilize our soils, clean our air, supply oxygen, and support wildlife.”

Bees also provide an abundance of economic services, including honey, wax, cosmetics, and medicinal products that can be beneficial to one’s health and body. Their importance in society is incredibly important; because without bees, we would not have the resources needed for survival.

As you can see, bees play a crucial role in the environment. Without bees, many of our fruits, vegetables, and nuts would be in short supply, and our ecosystem would not be balanced. By protecting the bees, we are not only ensuring a healthy environment but also safeguarding our food sources and sustainable agriculture.

However, there are still things that need to be done in order to protect them. A few things we can do to safeguard our bees is to create a bee garden, plant more trees, go chemical free, and support local beekeepers.

We have the capacity to reverse the decline of these important creatures and, in doing so, secure the future of our food, our environment, and our very way of life. By becoming stewards of the bees, we are investing in the health of our planet as well the well-being of many generations to come. Bees are crucial to our well-being and it is our priority to protect and advocate for them.
