With spring sports starting up, baseball is looking to repeat a trip to the state tournament. Last year, Holy Family’s baseball team excelled as they had a lot of upper-class talent leading the team. Because of that, they were able to push through and win the conference and section title.
This year they have new standards and a bigger goal. With upper-class talent and seven returning seniors, they are expected to outplay a lot of their opponents throughout the season. Jamo Quinn, one of the senior captains said, “Yes, we may be projected to win a lot of games, but we still need to go out there and play hard because the wins won’t just come to us.” That is the mentality the baseball team has right now, and if they keep doing what they are doing, the sky’s the limit.
Three games into the season, the boys are 3-0 and off to a hot start. With wins against Providence, St. Agnes, and Breck, the morale of the team is high. In two of those games, the team won by 10 runs or more. With 4 home runs against Breck, the bats are hot. One stand-out player, Cameron Dean, has two home runs already and is a huge threat to opposing pitchers. Andrew Athmann, Brayden Carlson, and Jamo were the other players who had home runs during that game. With this crazy hot start, the team is looking to ride out this momentum for the short spring season and earn their ticket back to the state tournament.
