Because the boys golf season stretches well into the summer, their incredible accomplishments of the past few seasons have gone under-reported. The team has qualified for the State Tournament for three consecutive years now, and for the second season in a row, the team placed second overall at the state tournament.

On the first day of the class AA state tournament, the boys were in third place behind Blake and Detroit Lakes. The second day was windy and the course became more challenging, but the team ended up over-taking Detroit Lakes, but, according to senior Lincoln Cizek, “Blake won by a large margin.” The team also placed 1st in their section, beating competitive teams like Annandale, Providence, and Dassel-Cokato.

Not only has the team as a whole been successful, but numerous Holy Family players have received individual recognition. Senior Lincoln Cizek placed 2nd overall at the state tournament in 2017. Both Jack Michel and Alex Wilson, graduates from the State Tournament team, have gone on to play golf at the collegiate level.

Reflecting on last year’s success and the upcoming season, Lincoln Cizek said, “This coming year I’m looking forward to seeing new faces. Having graduated half of our team from last year I’m looking forward to becoming a leader to help continue the success of the program. I’d like to make the State Tournament as a team for the 4th year straight year and to finally win the title. Being a part of the HF golf program has been such a ride. I have been exposed to great competition and great coaches which has helped me improve my game immensely. Coach Nelson does a great job being a coach on the course just as well off the course. The chemistry that I have with my teammates and coaches at Holy Family is something that won’t go unappreciated.”

Key returning players for the 2018 season include seniors Tyler Muschewske and Lincoln Cizek, and junior Cole Wilson.
