In track and field, you are highlighted as an individual, but the Fire have a special bond that sets them apart from the other track teams around the state. Kyle Economy, the head track and field coach, is completing his fifth year as head coach here at Holy Family and the expectations are as high as ever.
This year’s team is led by a strong group of senior captains, who have helped the Fire create the culture the team has today. On the girl’s side, captains Taryn Richter and Lauren Ferguson lead the team. While the boy’s team is captained by Breck Neubauer, Jacob Orina, Brady Tucker, and Sam Stukenborg.
Breck Neubauer had a standout indoor track season, competing at the Nike Indoor Track internationals in New York City and last year captured the school record for the 200 meter dash. After he leaves Holy Family, he will attend St. Johns University and will play for their football and track and field teams respectively. Now onto Jacob, he also competed in the Nike Indoor Track and Field Nationals, where he became All-American with his 8th place finish in the 60M Dash. At the True Team Section 6AA track meet, Jacob was only one tenth of a second off of the 100 meter dash school record. Both Jacob and Breck make for a powerful duo in the team’s 4×100 meter relay, who not only broke the school record, but also qualified for state last spring.
As championship season approaches, the Fire seem to be hitting their stride coming into Sections on May 26th. Captain Sam Stukenborg, who is currently on his third season running for the fire, had this to say about how the team was feeling going into sections: “Season’s been really great. You know, we’ve really come together as a team. I think going into championship season, we’ll be ready to perform at our best.”
With talent across the board and a tight knit positive culture driving them to greatness, the Fire are primed for a successful postseason run.
